Laundry update

When we first moved to our new home, the space downstairs was unfinished, all the 'wall insides' were built but most of them had no plasterboard. There had been rats, hornets and other 'lovely' creatures living there for some time, by the looks of the space.
Incredibly there had been someone 'living' in one of the rooms. He also had been using the laundry as a kitchen as well. Let's just say it was gross! The cabinets had rusted and it was dark, dirty and horrible. Unfortunately it wasn't a nice place to be and having a family, I had to spend considerable time in there.
Of course, there was no money to splurge on a major overhaul, but we were keen for an improvement.

After a lot of scrubbing, we enlisted the help of a friend of ours, to finish plastering the room. A ceiling was installed, the old sink and cabinet were removed and we had a blank canvas.
The room was actually quite large for a laundry, so I wanted to make certain we had plenty of cupboard space and benches for folding/sorting. I decided to paint the walls white with one being a colour called Seafoam. We found some flat pack cabinetry at our local Bunnings, which we brought home and got to installing. What a huge difference!

That huge gap between the cupboards? Perfect spot for my baskets! I know, the floor is feral, but we made short work of that with some vinyl squares. I found a funky light fitting, hung some art work I bought at my school's art auction and things were coming together.
I found some white tiles at an op shop and after some serious 'Pinterest' research, set about giving tiling a go. It really wasn't that hard, and I remembered we had some beautiful glass mosaic tiles left over from building our house a few years ago. Perfect for a little feature.
Such a big difference for very little outlay. It makes doing the washing more enjoyable, being in a clean, bright and usable space.
