I have started reading Eat Pray Love recently and it is certainly an insightful look into one women's journey through adversity and finding herself. One of my favourite sentences in the book goes:-" We wrongly believe that our limited little egos constitute our whole entire nature. We have failed to recognise our deeper divine character. We don't realize that , somewhere within us all, there does exist a supreme Self who is eternally at peace. That supremes Self is our true identity, universal and divine."
I re read this several times and pondered over it for a while. For those close to me know that I can have a challenging life sometimes and wonder why I can continue. Well I guess that I am at peace with who I am and have faith to believe it will be ok.
Further on in the passage, it says:- Before you realize this truth,......., you will always be in despair, a notion nicely expressed in this exasperated line from the Greek stoic philosopher Epictetus: " You bear God within you, poor wretch, and know it not."
Food for thought.........
I am pondering the same words
ReplyDeleteCan I borrow your book when finished? (if it is yours). It has been on my list to read for a few months (want to read before I see the movie). Tanya
